Pictures of Your Home on Google by Spring

Google are soon going to release images of every house in the UK onto their Google Maps product.

Known as Google Street View it will show pictures of your house, taken from the road by one of Google’s special camera cars, that anybody – and that means anybody – will be able to see.

Nosey parkers will be able to zoom in and inspect your home from various angles. The system will apparently be live by the spring.

If you’ve not seen this working before you can click here to see it in action, showing Times Square in New York.

The Daily Mail think that it will encourage burglaries. The Guardian covered some early privacy issues.

Personally I look forward to the comedy that the pictures will undoubtedly create as they have done in other countries. So far they have captured some pretty weird stuff going on, and more recently exposed new Porsche prototypes in Colorado.

But isn’t this just another step towards the Orwellian society that the UK seems to be hell bent on implementing?

The answer could be in this video.

Those wacky Americans! What will they think up next? But, well … Ooops! Orwell was British, writing about European totalitarianism at a time when …. oh, fuck it. Another bong load will make it all go away.
